The Apple iPhone Event is finally here and so am I! So, I am going to be hanging out over at Mashable.Com, AllThingsD.Com and iMore.Com where their superb tech staff will be covering the entire proceedings from inside the Yerba Buena Center.
Last evening, the Wall Street Journal had this to say:
Jefferies analyst Peter Misek: “While there may be fewer surprises than there have been in prior years (as the number of leaks seem to be uncharacteristically high this time around), we still see numerous catalysts for the shares to perform well over the next couple months and the next year.”
Misek, who has a $900 price target on Apple, sees virtually no chance that the company will announce iTV at this event. But he does forecast several other events that may take place: “9/12 iPhone 5 announcement, 9/14 preordering starts, 9/21 retail sales start, 9/23 announcement of first weekend sales, 9/28 announcement of the first week’s sales, by 10/10 invitation for the iPad mini event, mid-Oct iPad mini announcement, 10/23 likely release of CQ3 earnings results, end-Oct iPad mini launch.”
Hmm – no mention of the iPad Mini at this event? I don’t know, that just seems weird and almost disappointing considering all the hype surrounding it. Mind you, we are only a month away from the proposed October date, so it’s close enough. But, a mention would be great. Something to tangibly anticipate and plan for as the holiday season approaches.
Live blog on the inside starting at 10:00 A.M. Pacific
Mashable is set to go
AllThingsD is ready and waiting!
iMore.Com is now live and in color!
Picture Via Mashable.Com “It’s a zoo outside Yerba Buena

Via Mashable.Com: Media has entered the building! We’re almost there – well not there there, but you know what I mean!
Via Mashable: Tim Cook on stage looking happy. “It’s an amazing time at Apple”

Via Mashable: Talking about the tremendous growth of Mac over the past year:

This Mashable photo says it all:

On to the App Store we go. Impressive figures in Mashable Photo below:

Via Mashable: TIm Cook says “Today we are going to take it to the next level” and passes the mike over to Phil Schiller to give us the news – finally. All about the iPhone.
The new iPhone is taller, 5 rows of apps on the screen and the most “challenging engineering our team has taken on”
It’s lighter and thinner. Have a look see:

Via Mashable – operates wireless on the 4G LTE Network. Touch sensors have been integrated into the display itself, rather than a layer on top. Loading a music app is 2x faster with the new A6 chip
Via Mashable – the graphics look fantastic.

Now on to battery life: 10 hours on Wifi, 8 hours on LTE. Guess I have to buy a Mophie battery pack for this baby
Camera has 8 megapixels and 2364×2448 resolution. Panorama feature and ability to share with family and friends when you comment in real time. Video has improves stabilization and detects up to 10 faces. Panoramic shot will be 28 megapixels. Huge!

FaceTime over cellular, as long as the carriers allow it. The earpiece has more noise cancellation.
The new connector is called Lightning and it’s a reversible connector so it doesn’t matter which way you plug it in. Neat!

Scott Forestal is up to demo iOS 6. Brand new Apps built from the ground up. Business cards available via Yelp, Tom-Tom uses “turn by turn” navigation, real-time traffic integration from Waze, you can tweet from the Maps App, full screen mode in Safari, iCloud tabs (Apple’s Instapaper feature)
Want more? Okay, I’ll give you more. Mail has VIP features, Passbook has added animations, sharing pictures on Photostream (personal favorite here), improved Siri – it will now give you movie recommendations via Rotten Tomatoes, and make restaurant reservations via Open Table. Finally, Siri will now post to Facebook for you. Wheeee!
Facebook is integrated into many of the Apps

The iPhone is available in black and in white. No biggie here!
A video of Jony Ive describing the beautiful design of the new iPhone is now being played.
$199 for 16G and $399 for 64G
Pre-order on Friday, ship one week later. iOS 6 will launch September 19th.

On to music, something “near and dear to our hearts”
Eddy Cue is up to talk about iPod and iTunes
They have integrated Facebook likes into the iTunes Store. Oh my this is something special.
A brand new version of iTunes with iCloud built in. Simpler and more streamlined.

Drag and drop song lists into playlists.
New feature called “Up Next” lets you see the queue of songs about to play and rearrange them if need be. Redesigned Search and Mini-Player.

Concerts have been added to the Artists’ Pages. I love this addition.
New iTunes available in late October
Now on to the iPod Updates
iPod Nano: reinvented. 40% thinner, lightning speed, larger display, widescreen video, Bluetooth capability, 30 hours of playback, TIVO like functionality

iPod Touch is next. Same height as the iPhone 5, Retina Display and in an array of colors. Widescreen video, seven times the graphic performance which is great for gaming

I have to say – it is just beautiful. The color selections are amazing. 40 hours of music playback and 8 hours of video. Weighs 88 grams. iSight Camera is going to be built in, 5 megapixel, autofocus, flash and panoramic feature. You can attach a a camera strap to the iPod Touch. Great gift for kids!!
1080 Video and you can edit your videos on the iPod Touch. It’s like the new iPhone but without the “phone” part. Very impressive.
Oh – and one more thing – Siri on the iPod Touch. How absolutely perfect.

Apple has spent years designing a new headphone. EarPods.. They are “little headphones with speakers on the side, basically”
EarPods direct sound right into the ear. They are available for purchase at the Apple Store today.
The new Nano is $149.00. The new Touch is $299 and $399. Available in October.
Foo Fighters are now live on stage.

Looks like the iPad Mini is going to have its own October event. The band seems to be ending the show. Darn.
Apple has updated its site to reflect the new products
And just like that, Cookie thanks us and signs off!
